Cameron Diaz is the latest celebrity in a string of high profile actors to embrace Olivia Firth’s Green Carpet Challenge. At last night’s Met Ball the actress dazzled in a glittering Stella McCartney dress made from GOTS certified organic silk, and embellished with thousands of glass beads and a crystal chain in the back. The traceability and sourcing of embellished materials is the “new challenge for the future” wrote Ms. Firth on her blog.
The Met Ball launched the opening of the new exhibit “Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada’s Impossible Conversations” running until August. Ms. Firth presented the guest of honor, Miuccia Prada, with a project to collaborate on a GCC gown for her to wear to last night’s event. Prada was not only up to experiment, but was the first designer to create a GCC dress using so many different GCC materials in one single piece. The black paneled gown mixes certified silks, tulle and chiffon with sustainably harvested ostrich feathers and end-of-line British made lace.
