How would you like to see your sustainable dress design worn at the Oscars?
Red Carpet Green Dress, is holding its 3rd annual contest a sustainable red-carpet worthy dress to be work at the 84th Academy Wards on February 26th 2012. Red Carpet Green Dress is an international dress design contest started by Suzy Amis Cameron, environmental advocate and wife of Director James Cameron.
About the contest: You are allowed to submit as many designs as you would like, with a $65 entrance fee per design. For each design you can submit a max of 5 sketches. The winning designer will be mentored by an established designer within the fashion industry to get your creation ready. The winner will also receive guidance from the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) and a sustainable fabric designer. The winning designer will be provided with information about sustainable fabrics and be able to select from a range of sustainable fabrics in accordance with his/her submitted sketch.
Design Criteria: The winning dress must be only from sustainable fabric/material.The use of notions such as buttons, crystals, beads, sequin, etc. is allowed in the design of the garment. However, the focus should be on using recyclable, natural, organic, sustainable notions, wherever possible. All applicants’ notes which accompany their sketch submission should clearly highlight these particular items and what they are made of.
The Winner: The winner will be flown out to LA for 3 nights, will meet the female celebrity who will be wearing the winning dress design, receive a tour of MUSE School, which works to inspire and prepare young people to live consciously with themselves one another and the planet, meet Suzy Amis Cameron, and of course have your design be worn to the OSCARS!!
