Fashioning Change and Community Collection are my top 2 sites for holiday shopping this season. Here’s why:
Fashioning Change has the best concept I’ve come across so far. This brand new site gives you stylish eco-friendly and ethical alternatives to your favorite name brand clothing. Their vision is to help shoppers make better purchases and create bottom-up change in the fashion industry. The site is very easy to navigate and you can shop by brands, category, color, style personality, occasion, and price. You can find alternatives for brands like J. Crew, Prada, Michael Kors, Abercrombie & Fitch, Banana Republic, Aldo shoes and many others. The site highlights the practices of these brands and the alternative choices, like the above image.
Community Collection connects leading and emerging global fashion brands and charitable causes. The site pairs each of the brands with a specific cause to create a Charity Campaign. When a product is purchased 20% of the purchase is put aside for the charity. Shoppers can track the progress of the initiative their purchases benefit via a status bar on the site, and will receive an email notification when the project goal is reached, at which point they will be able to see their donation dollars at work through regular photo and status updates. The site is featuring brands like Elizabeth and James, Current Elliot, Helmut Lang, Diane Von Furstenberg, Alexis Bittar, Tibi and many more. I’ve written about this site here.
So if you can’t find yet the eco-alternative to that must have piece, get it from a place that supports a good cause. Why would you ever go back to Shop Bop?
Let your shopping do some good this holiday season, and remember you have power with ever dollar you spend!
